Welcome to the Ottawa Palyul Centre!

DEDICATED TO THE TEACHING AND PRACTICE OF BUDDHISM IN THE  NYINGMA PALYUL TRADITION

We are a registered Canadian charity with two mandates: to uphold and nurture the Buddha Dharma in Canada and to support the refugee children living at Namdroling Monastery in Byla Kuppe, South India. The Ottawa Palyul Centre welcomes diversity in all its forms and offers you a safe space in which to practice and discuss the Dharma.

ANNOUNCEMENTS & SPECIAL EVENTS

Happy Autumn! We were very privileged in August/September to host a wonderful program where Khenchen Gyatso Rinpoche, the Spiritual Director of our Centre granted us deeply profound pointing out instructions and the Lhadrup Tigle empowerment to set us firmly on the Dzogchen path. We thank him from the bottom of our hearts and want to thank all those who helped to make his last visit to our current dharma house the success that it was.

Continuing Meditation on Zoom with Ven. Samten Chodron -’59 Ways to Cultivate a Peaceful Mind and Warm Heart’ – Wednesdays starting Nov. 6th at 7pm

In this time when our lives can feel speedy and stressful, our hearts breaking with every news cycle, and our minds out of control, we may feel the need an Operator’s Manual for the Human Mind. Fortunately, such a manual has been around since the 13th century and it still works for the problems of the 21st Century!  It’s called, Lojong, and it is organized around 59 pithy sayings.  Each one is a support for realizing the vast potential of the human heart and mind. Please join us weekly (or occasionally) on Wednesday for a period of guided meditation and contemplation and an introduction to one of the sayings.  Before concluding, we always have time for comments and questions.

  • Nov. 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th, Dec 4th & Dec 11th – Wednesday evenings from 7 – 8pm – please check our Events Calendar each week for any last minute changes

Lhabab Duchen – Friday Nov 22nd at 6pm

Please join us at the Centre to celebrate the prayer festival of Lhabab Duchen.  This is one of four major festival days in the year which celebrate important events in the life of Buddha Shakyamuni.  It commemorates the Buddha’s return to earth from the heaven worlds where he had spent three months teaching the Dharma to his mother Mayadevi and the gods.  It takes place during the 9th month of the lunar calendar and the whole month is a very auspicious time to engage in virtuous activities and practice as much as possible. Practice is especially important on the 22nd day (Nov. 22) because it is said that the positive or negative effects of our actions on this day are multiplied ten million times.

Please check the Monthly Calendar for details.
