Thubten Samten Chodron (Nyingje Norgang, PhD)In this time when our lives can feel speedy and stressful, our hearts breaking with every news cycle, and our minds out of control, we may feel the need an Operator’s Manual for the Human Heart/Mind. Fortunately, such a manual has been around since the 13th century and it still works for the problems of the 21st Century!  It’s called, Lojong, and it is organized around 59 pithy sayings.  Each one is a support for realizing the vast potential of the human heart/mind. Please join us weekly (or occasionally) on Wednesday for a period of guided meditation and contemplation and an introduction to one of the sayings.  Before concluding, we always have time for comments and questions.

    November 22, 2024

    Happy Lha Bab Duchen!

Please join us at the Centre to celebrate the prayer festival of Lha Bab Duchen.  Lha Bab Duchen is one of the four holy days in the year when we celebrate and remember important events in the life of Buddha Shakyamuni.  The Buddha is said to have returned from the heaven worlds where he had spent three months teaching the Dharma to his mother Mayadevi and the gods.  Traditionally, Buddhists engage in many virtuous activities through this whole month (9th month of the lunar calendar).  This is a very auspicious time to practice as much as possible, especially from the 16th to the 30th. If you are not able to practice every day, then on the 22nd day of the lunar calendar, it is extremely important to practice because it is said that the positive or negative effects of our actions on this day are multiplied by 10,000,000.

Yumka (The Queen of Great Bliss) with Tsok feast offering on the 25th of the lunar month is dedicated to Padmasambhava's consort, the enlightened wisdom Dakini, Yeshe Tsogyal.

Tsok means “gathering together” for a spiritual feast. The practitioners come together, the food and drink to be offered to everyone is assembled, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas gather together, and finally as a result of this practice, merit and wisdom are accumulated or “gathered together” by the participants.
