Gutor is a special Vajrakilaya ritual carried out just before the Tibetan New Year to dispel all the negativity of the old year and clear the way for an auspicious beginning to the new year. It is customary to do Vajrakilaya practice on this day.

Today is Dharma Protector Day– on the 29th of the Lunar month

Vajrakilaya is the main Nyingma protector deity whose practice dispels harmful beings, harmful emotions, and  negative circumstances, creating beneficial conditions for Dharma practice and the path to  enlightenment.
