Born in Nepal, Khenmo Karma Sangmo entered Namdroling Nunnery in 1999 where she learned Tibetan reading, writing, grammar, and history. In 2006, she enrolled in the nunnery institute for higher education and completed the nine-year shedra program in 2015. Since then she has served the nunnery in various ways: as a teacher in the institute and school, as accountant, and as secretary. In 2023, in fulfillment of the aspirations of H.H. Penor Rinpoche, Karma Sangmo was among the very first cohort of nuns to be bestowed the degree of Khenmo (Khenpo for monks), the highest scholastic degree in the Nyingma School. She was enthroned as Khenmo by H.H. Karma Kuchen Rinpoche, the 12th throne holder of Palyul lineage.
