Welcome to the Ottawa Palyul Centre!

DEDICATED TO THE TEACHING AND PRACTICE OF BUDDHISM IN THE  NYINGMA PALYUL TRADITION

We are a registered Canadian charity with two mandates: to uphold and nurture the Buddha Dharma in Canada and to support the refugee children living at Namdroling Monastery in Byla Kuppe, South India. The Ottawa Palyul Centre welcomes diversity in all its forms and offers you a safe space in which to practice and discuss the Dharma.

We are sure that you will connect with Lopon Rigzin Losal’s in-depth knowledge, his enthusiasm, and concern for students who often have little opportunity to communicate informally with an authentically trained Nyingma teacher.

What if you had a TV which changed channels and volume randomly and frequently and had no off button?   Even worse, what if the chaotic equipment seemed to be hardwired into you?  We were all born with sophisticated capacities, yet they often make our lives hell rather than heaven.  We need an Operator’s Manual for the Human Heart/Mind. Fortunately, such a manual does exist.  It’s been around since the 13th century and it works for all models and years!  The Operator’s Manual is organized around 59 pithy reminders.  Each one is a support for realizing the vast potential of the human heart/mind. Please join us weekly (or occasionally) Wednesdays for a period of guided meditation and contemplation and an introduction to one of the reminders.  Since many of them are provocative, we may then have a lively discussion!

2022 Activities – We are happy to report that we were able to host a wonderful teaching on the Kuntuzangpo Prayer by Khenchen Guru. We also received teachings on the 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva from Lopon Rigzin Losal and meditation practice sessions with Ani Samten Choedron. As part of our support for English language learning for the Namdroling Lopons, we hosted a 3-part teaching program by the senior Lopons.

2023 Activities – Coming up this year we are pleased to host Lama Pasang to lead us in accumulating the Kuntuzangpo Prayer. Also we plan to continue the 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva Saturdays with Lopon Rigzin Losal and Wednesday meditation practices with Ani Samten.

Thank you for your generosity – With your donations, we are happy to report that we have been able to keep our little Centre open and viable.  We are pleased to tell you that for the year 2022, your donations have allowed us to send $5900 towards the support of all the children cared for at Namdroling, and a further $2,550 specifically dedicated to the support of the little girls who reside at the nunnery. Overall, since 2008, your contributions to the children’s welfare total $102,000. Please rejoice with us! Thank you so much!
