Lopon Rigzin Losal was born in Ladakh and in 2005 at the age of 15, he came to Namdroling monastery where he took monastic ordination. He first studied Tibetan language and literature along with general Buddhist studies and in 2012, he enrolled in the Ngagyur Nyingma Institute (the Namdroling centre for higher Buddhist studies and research). From his third year at NNI, he also became a member of the Padma Mani Translation Committee (an educational department under NNI) and under the guidance of Khenpo Sonam Tsewang and many other teachers began learning the English language for the purpose of translation. In 2021, he graduated from the nine-year NNI program and was given the title of Lopon (Spiritual Teacher). Since then, he has served the monastery in many different departments. Most recently, during the 2022 annual Palyul retreat in upstate New York, he provided English translation for students of the Ngondro (Preliminary practice) class.
